Bolesta Center, Inc. - Serving the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Home

Since 1961, Bolesta, Inc. has provided a diverse array of therapeutic and educational programs for infants, preschoolers and school aged children with hearing impairments throughout Florida.

At Bolesta, we teach hearing-impaired children to listen and speak with their hearing aids or cochlear implants. Through this approach, they learn to communicate normally, use regular telephones and be fully integrated into our families, schools, communities and larger hearing society. Our kids are not taught lip reading or sign language and they are not placed in costly special education programs or in segregated classrooms.

The Auditory-Verbal approach represents a commitment to a lifestyle based on maximum use of and dependence on hearing. Because one learns to hear, one learns to speak, because one learns to listen, one learns the meaning and use of our spoken language. Because one learns to use our language, one becomes fully integrated into the hearing society. We utilize an individualized Auditory-Verbal Therapy curriculum that guides and coaches parents to be the primary facilitators of developing their child’s listening and spoken language development.

Bolesta is one of only a handful of independent, non-profit Auditory-Verbal centers in the USA and one of only a very few such centers that operate out of its own facility. It is the only program of its kind in the state of Florida.

Bolesta provides a highly labor-intensive program, which is child-driven and parent-focused. Bolesta also provides professional training, internships and community education.

We accept most major insurances. For those who are self-pay, fees are charged according to income. No family is ever turned away due to inability to pay.
